FAQ

Can we talk?

You'll discover an informal, supportive, and friendly atmosphere in which to explore and resolve your issues... one careful step at a time. What you say in our conversations will be heard and honored, and you'll find that I'm an active participant: asking questions, providing feedback, and, when appropriate, offering new perspectives and skills. We'll typically begin by describing your problem, how it works, and what you want instead. After carefully considering your options, we'll design and implement the solutions you need for the outcomes you want.

As you can see, our meeting room is a modest, clean, and simple space. That's emblematic of how I think about therapy and a great many other things in life: simplicity is often the best choice. Get the basics right, and the rest gets easier. We'll keep your therapy as comfortable, easy, and brief as possible... while still fully realizing your goals. You might say we'll be following Albert Einstein's sage advice, "everything should be made as simple as possible... but no simpler."

A Few Administrative Details

I work with adult individuals and couples. We meet by appointment in my home office, on a quiet, tree-lined street in Bethesda. Meeting in a home office means a less formal therapeutic setting. It also means less overhead expense, a savings passed on to you in the form of lower fees. Appointments are offered during the day and evening, Monday through Thursday. A typical session lasts about 50 minutes. Parking is nearby, either on the street or in the driveway, only a few steps from the door leading into our meeting room.

My fee for a typical individual or couple session is $125. The first visit, a 75 minute extended introductory session, is $185. I ask to be paid at the end of each session and provide receipts clients can use to seek reimbursement from their insurance carrier. I am a licensed Psychologist in the state of Maryland. That means most insurance companies will reimburse for my psychotherapy services at some rate, for some number of visits. Please check with your insurance carrier to find out their exact reimbursement rates for out-of-network providers.

The sooner you start resolving your issues, the sooner you can start feeling better. Is today too soon? If you give me a call, we can discuss how we might go about clearing up your problems. And of course I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have. If you like what you hear, we can set up a time for your first visit. That number is:
